One Prayer

Daily Devotional by Perry Noble

One Prayer Daily Devotional
By Perry Noble, Senior Pastor, NewSpring Church

Matthew 21:21-22 (NIV)
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

If God is huge—and we say and sing that He is—then why do we struggle with doubt?

I remember when we were six months into NewSpring Church and—WHAM—a financial crisis hit us out of the blue…seriously, we NEVER saw it coming.

So, I did what any pastor would do…I freaked out. I allowed the enemy to surface feelings of insecurity and unbelief—and for a while I felt like I was going to be completely crushed by the pressure I was feeling.

Then it hit me—why not pray about this? After all, Jesus did say it is HIS church!

So, I called the staff together and asked them to pray that the next month (July) would be the best month of giving our church had ever had. (July usually stinks for most churches.) And we didn’t throw around wimpy prayers—WE PRAYED, believing God was going to do incredible things.

And He did—seriously, that next month our offerings were doubled from the previous month. There is no explanation…attendance didn’t increase, no one hit the lottery…it was just the result of a few people refusing to believe that God was going to allow the church to go under financially…and so we BEGGED God to do the impossible.

What “impossible” thing are you begging God for?

Hi everyone. I went to church this morning (Lifechurch.tv - OKC campus) to hear Perry and I was blown away. I am not a crier, but the tears just wouldn't stop. You see, 2 months ago my husband left me and our two boys, 16 and 14, to go live a gay lifestyle. As you can imagine, our life has been turned upside down. We are now in a new home, new church, and a new faith. The miracle I am asking for is two-fold: one, that my husband will find Christ and turn his life around so that my boys can see how big God is, and two, that my boys will seek God in everything they do and find a way to trust and love in a way that seems impossible to them right now. Thanks to all of you who are believing and are willing to be dangerous!

All of us older believers who have been saved a long time should be absolutely excited about this website and this move of God we have been experiencing. I have been grieved for many years by the disunity and competition that was apparent in the body of Christ and the denominational schisms. This is a miracle and an answer to our prayers for unity. Pastor Perry you shared a word in due season because I am a woman in the funeral procession who's husband went to heaven and who's son needs a resurrection in areas of his life and who has been waiting for Jesus to come towards us and touch us and heal us and raise our lives and hopes into "the best is yet to come" level. I long for the power of God and the miracles I have seen in the past 31 years and the sweet that is to come...the blessings and things God has prepared because He always saves the best for last of the New Wine.

I pray that my single friends, including me, would become completely satisfied with Jesus. I pray that we would nurture our relationship with Jesus, I pray that we take the time to get to know HIm, and whether we press forward as an amazing single woman, (Mother Theresa) or an amazing married woman, (Beth Moore), that our focus is not on ourselves, or our marital status, it is to fulfill God's purpose for our lives. I also pray that as I draw closer to Jesus, that my Youth kids would draw closer to Him as well.

    Stay the course......

W.O.W, Perry awesome job on this weeks sermon on being a Dangerous Church. It was exactly what I believe I needed and our church. I saw people walk out with excitement and I believe when a fire is started and the winds of God are blowing it can't be put out.
    Father God,
I pray for our church and all the churches in our area that this fire would spread and touch those around us. We have a city that needs revival. I ask that you Father lead us and direct us let us be people, your children that choose to live dangerously with great anticipation. Let us be like that growd that knew you and believed you, not frustrated. I ask that we would be light in a dark place. That we as the body would focuse upward and seek first your kingdom. Believing the impossible. That many would come to you and be set free. I ask Lord that you give our campus Pastor all that he needs to lead this campus, protect his family, strengthen him, bless him and his family for their committment to follow you. Our staff at our campus that you would bless them, lead them and direct them, that the body would get involved and plug in and every need would be met with great anticipation. Thank you Lord for an awesome body to be a part of and to worship with and do life together. May we walk with you, listen to you and step out in faith.
In Jesus name I pray, Amen!!!

I am GT from the Stillwater, Ok campus of LifeChurch.tv. Some would say my prayer is impossible but our campus is praying for and expecting a miracle for a 9 yr old boy named David with cancer. He will go into surgery this week for the 3rd or 4th time, and will likely lose a kidney. The extent of his cancer is still unknown. Please join us this week as we fast and pray for miracles and remember David as you pray. Thanks Perry, we can pray with confidence because no miracle impossible.

My husband is stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln currently deployed in the Persian Gulf. 5000+ sailors and less than 100 sold out for Christ and another 100 on the fence. There are three denominations and worship style represented on the ship, none of them what we are used to or feel comfortable worshiping with. My husband has gotten permission to show sermon videos and worship on the ship that are more in line (& modern) with the way we worship.
This has to happen around a working aircraft carrier and AFTER his normal duties on the ship. An onfire Christian is an oddity in the Navy: no drinking? no cursing? no adultery ? You are weird dude!
His bosses don't want to hear about Bible study or worship service that this weird guy wants to do.
I pray God will soften and change their hearts and open doors for him to bring Glory and Honor to God while on the ship. That God will give him the time and energy (they work 15 hour days) to complete this task.
God is in charge of the NAVY and HE can do some what man says is impossible: a service that is Rockin and praising God full of men and women who are earnestly seeking the truth.
He gets discouraged some days and I pray that God gives him endurance for this task.

I agree what an awesome priviledge it is to come here and read about the needs of others and begin to pray for people you don't even know. I am reminded of an old song I used to listen to that said "When every dream uhave crashes to the ground and the days become so lonely and hope cannot be found. When faith gives into fear, night begins to fall and you cannot find the courage to even pray at all. Miles away, somewhere within the night someone's praying for you, their holding up the light. From the jungle to the sea. From the desert to the sky. He is the God that sees our needs, He is the God that will supply. In the midst of every moment closer than a prayer, with a love that will not leave us He is there.

    Father,

There are so many hurts and hopes represented in the prayers and the requests listed below. I pray that You will bring comfort to the hurting, peace to the troubled, and strength to the weary. Thank you so much for allowing us a place to share our troubles, and the honor of bringing each other before you in prayer. Thank You for all the wonderful things You are going to do-- whether they look like we expect or not. Thank You for being a God who's big enough to handle it all, and who loves us enough to hurt with us. Please continue to use oneprayer to bind us together...

Doubt is something that I struggle with. I know that God is there but sometimes I feel so disconnected when I pray and do not get an answer or I pray and don't feel anything in my spirit. When you pray and do not feel that God responds, doubt creeps in. But I know that God is good and to grow in my relationship with Him I have to be determined to keep the faith and believe God for the things I need. I need God to help me to raise my self esteem because right now it is honestly very low.

Matt you are in my prayers and I hope that God softens your wife's heart and brings her back to you.

This devotional is so good. Just this morining I realized how much doubt I have about God answering my prayers. I can pray and believe it for someone else. I ask all of you to be in prayer for our family and all the financial needs that we have. I hate that I doubt God's goodness and faithfulness. He has always been faithful to us, but this is an area of struggle for me. I truly believe in prayer and love to pray with others. As our church experiences this series on One prayer I pray that many lives would be touched by the Love of God and feel connected as a part of the body of Christ. Also for the needs that our church has so that minisrties that truly bless others can continue and grow. We have an awesome church.

And that God would open up doors for us to serve Him in fulltime ministry.

  • Liane - Stillwater Campus 5 months ago

Lance - nothing is impossible for the Lord. Your post stuck out most to me for that reason alone so as well as praying for all the requests listed here, I will pray especially that God will work within your impossible situation. God is good!

My prayer is simple, but not....I pray that all of us, including me, stop the doubt and disbelief. We ARE the church and is it any wonder non-Christians think badly on Christianity when the Christians doubt the one thing they profess to believe in so much?

God bless you all and may we continue to be one Church even after this series is over.

I pray for love, not love for myself or love for a friend, but love in the church. I pray that we love our brothers and sisters in Christ in a way that no one looking onto our relationships can doubt Christ. It recently has been so evident to me that if God is love shouldn't that be the one thing we strive for above all else. If we have love for each other all our other problems will fall into place.

I challenge you (myself included) to truly love today. Love in a way that God exudes through your interactions. Love the differences in people, because just like you they were created in God's image.

    Thanks so much guys.

Thank you for such a strong devotional. That has been a memory verse for me for several months.

Our (earthly) impossible prayer is for our son to be healed. We found out thru genetic testing that our second son (Caleb) has muscular dystrophy (ducheene or becker). This is a muscle wastings disease. Most boys are in a wheel chair by 10 or 12 and many dont live too far into their 20's. We are broken hearted over this.

God told me "he will be fine and to believe". I know, no, i've seen what God can do. I do struggle with doubt. Fear of loosing my child or seeing him suffer takes over and I ache so deeply. What I do know is God held him before I held him and I know he would be more loved with his heavenly father than I could ever love him here on earth. What we pray for is a miracle. One that says there is no doubt that God exists.

Here is a little bit about that sweet boy. He is eight. He loves frogs, taking pictures, playing with his older brother, eating and more eating, helping me with the dishes, cooking, cleaning the bathroom. His teacher says that he is kind to everyone at school and he never leaves anyone out. When his sister was a baby he would lay next to her and hold her hand, he helps her cross the street and he enjoys reading and tickling his younger brother. He picks flowers for me and is always ready for big hugs and kisses and tickles from mom and dad.

Please pray for a miracle, strength and wisdom for our entire family. Whoever reads this please pass this on to your church and friends to pray for. We have a mighty, big God.

    His servant
    Marlene

The impossible for me is finances. In 2005 I became very ill and disabled for about a year. I ran out of FML and lost my job which put the burden soley on my husband who currently works in construction. I lost my health insurance after my COBRA ran out and was no longer "insurable" due to my medical history. I racked up almost $100K in medical debts between my illness and my son being born critically ill in 2007. Thanks to Insure Oklahoma, I now have health coverage but we had to make the very difficult decision to file bankruptcy on those medical bills so we can start over. We are a family of 5 living on my husband's humble salary and I am a full time Nursing student. We have a VERY strict budget and have almost NO room for extras. When we participate in micro-missions or other things like we shorten the list that week to allow for those extra things. It is getting VERY scary with rising prices and it seems impossible to me that we are going to be able to recover financially from something that happened almost 3 years ago. I keep telling myself that if walk God's path he WILL take care of us. I believe it but I would be lying if I said the doubts don't come into my mind often. Lord please help me to push those doubts aside. I KNOW how great you are, you have shown yourself to me many times over; please help me to overcome my doubting nature. I wish to give this all to you!

Melding her multiple personalities into one healthy mind ,any chemical imbalance will be corrected in the mighty name of Jesus. I ask this in Faith knowing my God is all powerful, always present in our toubles, and He created Kimberly's mind in perfection and is more than capable of getting her an early release from jail and healed .Jesus You are our Savior so I pray in Your Holy name ,I ask and wait on and trust in You Almighty God. Amen

I am begging God for my wife's salvation. She is not a believer, and when I say that, I mean she doesn't even believe there is a god. I don't know if it's denial because of some tragic things that happened to her as a child or what, but in my mind it seems almost impossible that she will believe one day. I'm praying and begging God daily that she will come to know the love of Jesus like I do. Satan blinds the eyes of unbelievers, but I know one day God will tear that veil that Paul talks about and she will see the light.

By the way, Perry, I attend LifeChurch.TV in OKC, but I watch you weekly online. I love your ministry. I praise God for people like you, Craig Groeschel, Steven Furtick, etc. that are blurring the denominational lines and proclaiming the message of Jesus, the most important message.
